Do Men Suffer From Baby Blues?

Postnatal depression is something most people associate with women, but according to researchers from Australia, men are just as likely to suffer too.
The study, published recently in the journal Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology, suggests almost 10 percent of fathers suffer postnatal depression in the first year of their baby’s life – which they claim is almost exactly the same amount of women who get the baby blues.
Young dads under the age of 30 are also 40 percent more likely to develop depression after the birth of their baby, the researchers claim. The reason for such a high incidence of depression among new dads, they say, is that men are taking on more parenting responsibilities these days, and are just as likely to be suffering from a lack of sleep as women.
